I’ve only been a conservative for half my life, but even I couldn’t believe my eyes and ears when, all of a sudden, Ann Coulter, that paragon of paleo-conservatism, wrote an article titled, “3 Cheers for Romneycare.”
Have I entered some parallel universe? I asked myself. Has General Zod of Krypton spirited me away to Bizarro World?
To top it off, Coulter appeared on Sean Hannity’s Fox News program Monday night and again spouted the nonsense that Mitt Romney is the most conservative candidate in the race. More conservative than Newt Gingrich, who helped lead the fight for welfare reform and forced Bill Clinton to balance the federal budget? More conservative than Rick Santorum, who’s been a staunch defender of the rights of unborn babies and opposed the Wall Street bailout?
Ann Coulter’s not the only rabid Republican defender of Romney, but clearly, Ann’s been spending too much time with the folks at GOProud, the group of left-wing loons who want to teach little children how to have “safe sex.”
The fact is, Mitt Romney has one of the most liberal records of any modern-day Republican governor, including Arnold Schwarzenegger.
When he was governor of Massachusetts, not only did Romney institute Romneycare, the big-government health-care boondoggle that preceded Obamacare, he also appointed many liberal pro-abortion judges while passing over more conservative Republican candidates, offered $50 abortions to Massachusetts citizens, promoted Planned Parenthood clinics on his website, forced Roman Catholic hospitals to distribute abortion pills, refused to defend Roman Catholic adoption agencies from attacks by extremist homosexual activists, promoted homosexual education in elementary schools, gladly gave his approval to same-sex marriages, and supported stem-cell “research” using human baby embryos.
If that’s being conservative, then Hugh Hefner should be elected pope!
As Mark Levin, a real conservative writer, noted the other day, Romneycare “fundamentally alters the government’s relationship with the individual.” Such a thing completely undermines an essential conservative principle – that conservatives believe in prudent reform, not “fundamental transformations” of society that turn ordinary citizens into wage slaves for Big Brother.
Contrary to Coulter’s lame-brain liberal lunacy, you don’t need a utopian, big government program like Romneycare to reduce health-care costs or make it more available to the average citizen. Most of the problems can be solved by national competition, tax deductions, less federal and state regulation, and tort reform.
In Massachusetts, Mitt Romney repeatedly surrendered to the pro-abortion statists and socialists in that state, even after he supposedly converted to the pro-life cause! In other words, he repeatedly betrayed his political party, including the pro-life movement, and the people in it.
That’s not a conservative record at all. In fact, it’s not even a Mormon record, if we are to believe the leaders of that church and their defenders!
It’s time for Romney Zombies like Ann Coulter and Gov. Chris Christie to lay off the overheated, mendacious rhetoric. Otherwise, someone’s going to have to write a sequel to Coulter’s book “Treason” and put their names in it.
Before you vote, please examine Mitt Romney’s liberal record in Massachusetts. You can do so by visiting the website of Mass Resistance.
So far, Fox News Channel and other media outlets have been hiding Romney’s real record from the public, despite repeated attempts to alert them about it. Republicans can’t afford to nominate another John McCain or Bob Dole, much less another duplicitous candidate like Richard Nixon was or Mitt Romney appears to be.
