(TCPALM) — If you’re grabbing lunch around St. Lucie or Martin County the next couple of months, don’t be surprised to see a bespectacled congressman with a flat-top haircut pull up in his Hummer and sit at the table next to you.

Fresh off announcing he’ll run for a proposed St. Lucie-Martin-Palm Beach County seat, U.S. Rep. Allen West said he’s ready to hit the Treasure Coast and learn what makes the region tick. The nationally known conservative tea party icon plans to start dropping by for the occasional meal to get to know potential voters, and vice versa.

Whether he’s hopping on a Harley, off-shore diving or visiting Fort Pierce’s National Navy UDT-SEAL Museum, locals are going to see a lot more of West here in the coming months — and potentially, the next two years.

West’s first step — rounding up the Treasure Coast chambers of commerce to hear what Congress can do to make business easier locally.
