“A wise man’s heart is at his right hand; but a fool’s heart at his left.”

Ecclesiastes 10:2

I hate to be a party pooper.

On the eve of the Florida primary, America is getting election crazy.

These are desperate times, with Barack Obama destroying the country, so it’s understandable. Believe me, no one wants to see him removed from office more than me – an office he is neither eligible nor worthy to hold.

But the bad news is it will take more than a worthy opponent in November to restore America to the vision of its founders and to the unique promise it once offered as a shining city on a hill.

Joseph de Maistre said back in the early 19th century that a nation gets the kind of leaders it deserves – certainly those nations where the people are permitted to do so.

The prophet Hosea quoting the Lord said it a bit differently: “They have set up kings, but not by me: they have made princes, and I knew it not: of their silver and their gold have they made them idols, that they may be cut off.” (Hosea 8:4)

When Americans stop trusting in God and put their faith in politics and worldly institutions, there’s not much hope for national salvation. Only repentance and revival can truly save the dream that was America – a nation founded on biblical principles and Judeo-Christian ideals.

If you doubt me, I’ll quote the American most often cited with regard to the myth of separation of church and state, Thomas Jefferson: “Can the liberties of a nation be sure when we remove their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people, that these liberties are a gift from God? ”

Or, how about this one from one of my favorite patriots, Samuel Adams? “Let each citizen remember at the moment he is offering his vote that he is not making a present or a compliment to please an individual – or at least that he ought not so to do; but that he is executing one of the most solemn trusts in human society for which he is accountable to God and his country. ”

How many Floridians will take that advice into consideration tomorrow? How many Americans will heed this thought next November?

No, America needs more than votes to save it.

It needs prayer – really fervent, down-on-our-knees, heartfelt supplication and fasting.

There’s a reason Obama is in the White House – and it’s more than just vote fraud, a corrupt media and cultural institutions in decay. What we get in politics is a genuine reflection of who we are or who we have become as a people.

This election is more than a horse race. It’s more than a game. It’s more than the Super Bowl. It’s an expression of our very souls.

The men contending for office need to be judged not on their rhetoric alone or their appearance or the amount of money they raise. They should be evaluated on their records, on their commitment to the values that have served America so well for so long, on their hearts.

Because we will be judged collectively as a nation on how we respond.

But that judgment won’t be determined only in how we vote or whom we vote for. It will be made based on how we respond to this message – and by who or what we put first in our lives.

So think about that.

And think about this from the Creator Himself: “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land” (2 Chronicles 7:14).

There’s still time, but the hour is late.
